Today’s the day! If you’re excited about the final season of Stranger Things, check out my book, Ode to Gen X: Institutional Cynicism in Stranger Things and 1980s Film from @upmississippi.bsky.social. It provides a recap of ST and a trip down 80s memory lane: bit.ly/3fDZyFo. #StrangerThings #GenX

Learning loss didn’t come from “lockdowns” or remote instruction.
It COMES FROM (still happening) illness.
Illness caused by COVID.
Illness that makes kids miss school and teachers miss teaching.
SICK DAYS. And the vascular damage that causes incapacity to think & retain.
This is still happening.
Every time Covid and learning loss hits the news, people act like the only factor is folk staying home and learning online, rather than… Living through a global mass death event.

The book chapter I’m writing on Unrivaled as an alternative to the WNBA just got a whole lot more interesting, me thinks. I’m so proud of Phee for using her position for good. #MinnesotaLynx #WNBA

What a game!
THE SEATTLE STORM STAY ALIVE 😱

Skylar Diggins' late-game heroics powered Seattle to an 86-83 win over Las Vegas to tie the series 1-1.

The penultimate episode of Paradise on Hulu is the best episode of telvision I’ve seen since The Bear’s “Fishes” (2023, season two, episode six).

I am pretty sure I will not sleep tonight because of it. #Paradise

Sen. Tammy Duckworth just said on Colbert, "We should all live long enough to develop a disability," & the audience laughed uncomfortably.

I can tell you what they were thinking. It was "Not me. That would never happen to me."

& the underlying, unacknowlged premise was "b/c I'm better than that."

When considering rainbow text, don't forget to consider readability and legibility. Text filled with rainbows can be difficult to read. Same with complex rainbow backgrounds. Putting each word or letter in a different color of the rainbow could force readers to work harder.

A bit jarring to go from one article describing a new #COVID variant leading to increased hospitalizations in Asia that has now detected in US to the next article about how the US is recommending fewer people get vaccinated.

Masking discourse is on again and I’ll just say if you see people masking when few others are it’s likely because they’ve determined that for them, in that setting, the benefit of not catching (or spreading) whatever’s going around is worth the cost of masking. It’s rarely more complicated than that

This is far too common. Thankful for Mayo Clinic doc who asked if I wanted a bilateral salpingectomy (tube removal) with my endo surgery. He explained procedure, benefits, drawbacks and didn’t question my decision or offer judgement. High five, Dr. Burnett! (And I’ve been endo free for THREE years!)
Asking insensitive questions like:

“Don’t you want to be a Mom?”

“You might want biological children, many women do”

“What happens if you meet your dream man and he leaves you for being barren?”

Thank you!

And FWIW, subscribing to @wired.com in January was one of the best decisions I made in the last couple of months.
wired.com WIRED @wired.com · Mar 18
They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.
Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow
As the administration does its best to hide public records from the public, Wired magazine is stepping up to help stem the secrecy

My mom is in her 80s and does not have access to the internet.
So it appears DOGE has decreed that Social Security administration will no longer provide phone support. At all. This is in addition to shutting down a ton of local SSA offices. www.axios.com/2025/03/17/s...
Leaked memo: DOGE plots to cut Social Security phone support
Changes could break the system, former officials say.
