In a rare case of Substack notes usefulness, I just learned that Sarah Kendzior (author of They Knew and a brilliant writer) got bounced from Bluesky. What the hell? new @sarahkendzior.bsky.social

I don't think Republicans want a holiday season with no flights. I don't think they want a military that doesn't get paid. Now we're back to them taking whatever they want and Democrats hoping they leave a few crumbs for their priorities.

they're still fighting to stop SNAP payments. this is the whole problem: Trump has been gifted a line item veto and he's using it to cut all of these services anyway. a government shut down means they run out of funding for the programs they want too until they come to the table.

you're here talking about not having veto-proof majorities and you're citing the Epstein files? you think Trump would sign that one into law?
the point is Republicans couldn't leave the shutdown going indefinitely. it wasn't viable for them. they run the government.

Then keep the government shut down indefinitely.
If they weren't willing to go the distance they should have never let it shut down in the first place.

If a progressive challenger doesn't win the primary, then so be it. The point is we need people to challenge these incumbents or they'll just keep selling us out to their good friends across the aisle.

What's the purpose of your question? We're talking about challenging incumbent senators in primaries, where everyone is presumed to be a Democrat. So what kind of advice is "anything with a D" supposed to provide there?

who was ever saying anything about a veto-proof majority? that was never a demand of Democrats. If a CR with ACA subsidies made it to Trump and he vetoed it, the political fallout would be cosmic. Why wouldn't you make him do that?
