Glad I got out to enjoy the fall colors as much as I did the past few weeks, as in the photo from last week.
As always happens, today was very windy, a November “Windsday,” and just like that, many of the trees are bare :(.

It was a MD-11 freighter which apparently only reached 175 feet altitude.

The lead story on NYT right now. Just like a thousand horrible headlines in the run up to the US invasion of Iraq in 2002/3. “Bush Weighing Options, Yet to Make Decision…” just replace Venezuela with Iraq and Maduro with Hussein.
Cheney’s world, ladies and gentlemen.

Last photo of this. Now on display in my office… It was a wee pricey, but a great way to spend time with one of my kids before they’re off to college next yr. FYI, the instructions contain cool historical notes which guide you in building the model in the same rough sequence as the actual cathedral

My kid and I finished the Lego Notre Dame de Paris tonight. We worked on it bit by bit over months. Cat provided lots of inspiring help. It’ll sit in my office at work. I mean I am a religion prof.

Why the (deceitful) advertising has ratcheted up so much.
Getting almost as annoying as the intrusive tech itself is the increasingly ubiquitous, awful advertising for it.

Just taught in one of my classes the famous dialogue (c 781) between Timothy I and the ‘Abbasid Caliph al-Mahdi. The church is now a tiny shadow of its former self.

The coal fired plant near me which was set to be retired twice in the last 6 months, but was forced by the admin, mandated I say, to stay open and keep unnecessarily burning coal to the tune of millions of dollars a week. Look at those hopper cars just full o’ coal.
