This thread I wrote almost a year ago is a bit of an insight as to how I approach designing expansions, including the work I did on Snowdonia…

Sitting down to work on the next map and characters for our upcoming Postmark Games release - 52 Realms Adventures.

I thought it might be interesting to some to chat a bit about how I approach designing new content for games as I have for Snowdonia, Voyages, Waypoints and others. (1/10)

I’m humbled that they chose to include the two scenarios I designed for the game, Trans-Australia and Qinghai-Tibet with all new artwork. Thank you Tony for letting me play in the Snowdonia playground :)

I talk about my finances each year (most recent is here: matthewdunstan.substack.com/p/finances-o...), and will hopefully soon do a video about 2025, and a separate video about my whole career.
Finances of a Game Designer, 2024 edition
Another year is in the books, which means its time again to review what my finances were like as a full time game designer for 2024!

It is possible, but it takes a lot of time to get there (my first game was released in 2013; I only went full time in 2021). There is a long lag from starting on a game to receiving any money from it; additionally you often need many releases to get one that earns money beyond the initial release.

I'm constantly amazed how much more I like Figma than Illustrator for making prototypes.

Most things in Figma take me less than half the time they used to in Illustrator

(thanks to @marcelineleiman.bsky.social for showing me the light)
