I’m very curious about how this app can build and sustain local conversations, especially in Berkeley. I’m excited and hopeful!

Not exactly the format I would want, but discusses the fact that EV tax credits are very expensive in $/ton, and their benefit tends to erode as ICE efficiency standards tighten. Economy-wide measures like gas tax and road tolls do more and cost a lot less.
Assessing California’s Climate Policies—Transportation
Chapter 135 of 2017 (AB 398, E. Garcia) requires our office to annually report on the economic impacts and benefits of California’s statutory greenhouse gas (GHG) emission goals—statewide emissions to 1990 levels by 2020 and to 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030. This report provides our assessment of the effects, of major policies in the transportation sector intended to help meet these goals, as well as identifies some key issues for the Legislature to consider as it makes future policy and budget decisions. In a companion report, Assessing California’s Climate Policies—An Overview, we describe the general types of economic effects of state climate policies, key challenges in measuring these effects, and broad issues for the Legislature to consider when designing and evaluating its climate policies.

Reading these narratives of the formerly enslaved was a treasure. I learned a tremendous amount.

It’s wonderful to see families already living here.

Also amazing: for decades, this was a single story building surrounded by surface parking even though it was essentially across the corner from Ashby BART.

At Sylvia Mendez Elementary School, a caravan of parents, kids and commuters took in treats - but also just celebrated being able to ride together.

So much to grieve about these days. I’m also seeing joy and inspiration:

Yesterday, I loved seeing dozens of folks all around the Temescal neighborhood and Mosswood Park who were picking up trash, weeding and otherwise beautifying the neighborhood. Inspiring to see service at work.

It’s always surprising to me to see long lines for a new restaurant. Today, it’s for Kura Revolving Sushi downtown. People seem to have been camped out for at least an hour. I clearly didn’t know this was a thing.

Loved reading the replies to this thread
CHALLENGE: Here’s one for those of you following me from right here in Berkeley (I have no idea how many of u there are, but I’m curious).

Share something you love about our city, without sneaking in (in the usual way we do) a backhanded criticism of any kind.

See if you can do it. #BerkeleyLove
This is fun. Maybe more of you will add a similar quote-post for your city too, a nice positive chain of #CityLove.

I love that it has a history of radicalism; that my child has had an amazing public school experience; and it’s a wonderfully walkable city.

The first time I saw Zakir Hussain play filled me with so much pride as an Indian, as well as awe — due to the myriad ways he made rhythm come to life. Being present to his joy was a gift.

A giant of classical Indian music and far beyond, Zakir Hussain was at the center of the Bay Area music scene for more than five decades.

This thread is to share and make clear the City's decision-making and actions taken. 🧵 1/

It took me a bit to figure out what in the world was going on with this house/former storefront in West Berkeley.
