Spotted in Rayburn. Trying to picture the vibe at a casework celebration happy hour.

After much prodding, here's what ChatGPT envisions for a title/cover.

Abby scores to tie the title game late in the first half.

My daughter's frisbee team won the VA high school state title yesterday, and it is really wild watching your kid do something you know they will remember the rest of their life.

I cannot begin to explain how unusual it is for an agency head to reject the administration's budget request wholesale in public. This usually gets you fired. Honestly makes me wonder if the skinny budget is just straight bullshit.

So we have 3 daughters and all of them have birthdays this week, and yes thats wild but maybe not as wild as the fact that this year they line up exactly with games four, five, and six* of the Caps playoff series. Not ideal.

*if necessary, please god not back à Centre Bell.

Just call me Nostradamus.

This is awful. The Archivist position is non-partisan and Colleen ran the agency in that manner. Presidents have never removed the archivist simply because the admin changed, and the Archives will be worse off now that they will.

This new @joshhuder.bsky.social slide for his talk on Approps politics is just perfect.
February 5, 2025 at 4:46 PM
If Lincoln himself showed up and ended the debate over one bill or two, they would have solved approximately nothing, because the logjam is over substantive policy, not procedural/political tactics.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET IN ON THE GROUND FLOOR OF A POTENTIAL TIMESHARE OPPORTUNITY ON THE MEDITERRANEAN?!?!?
February 5, 2025 at 2:45 AM
As phrased here, this is not legal under the ICA. OMB and/or agencies cannot refuse to apportion/obligate appropriations because they are not "in line with the president's agenda."
January 28, 2025 at 8:24 PM
OMB FAQ on the approps freeze walks back the memo quite a bit and clarifies some things; note they are arguing this is not an impoundment, probably an attempt to claim this is a permissible "programmatic" delay (which is not covered by the ICA). 1/
January 28, 2025 at 8:09 PM
But there's no other reasonable decision here. Pro-impoundment people love to pretend it was normal in American history right up until the Nixon disputes, but they are wrong, usually conflating *saving* money with impounding funds. 14/
January 28, 2025 at 3:41 PM
If Congress is reduced to only being able to negatively appropriate (that is, refuse to provide funds), you completely upend the balance of power. How can Congress build the military it wants if a POTUS could unilaterally cut funding by 50%? Or 80%? 9/
January 28, 2025 at 3:41 PM
What I'd like to discuss is the consequences. As I wrote last month, accepting inherent presidential authority to impound is akin to shifting the balance of power between legislature and executive to something that resembles 16th century England. 8/

The facts: last night, the Trump administration, via OMB, put out a memo directing a agencies to temporarily pause all obligation or disbursement of federal financial assistance. 2/
January 28, 2025 at 3:41 PM
I am sure Trump is going to make a show of high profile deportation; I am not sure what odds I would lay on his admin doing more than Obama's first term. He didn't come close first time around.
January 20, 2025 at 5:49 PM
I'm sure Trump didn't leave a note like this in the Oval 4 years ago, and I doubt Biden will today, but this is the template for how a defeated 1-term POTUS should feel/behave. GHWB never got the credit he deserves, but we'd be lucky to have a POTUS of his quality and character again.
January 20, 2025 at 2:43 PM
I am very worried Trump's foreign policy and trade policy will be disastrous for the country, and IMO his character and track record make him obviously unfit for public office. But I will root for his administration's success because---for better or worse---it's now our success.

Hello Darkness my old friend.
January 3, 2025 at 5:21 PM
A reasonably important point here: there's no Rule I, Clause 12(a) recess authority prior to the adoption of House rules. Under the general parliamentary law, there's only adjournments, and they require a House majority to approve them. 1/
