Most of this council is still relatively new to their positions and, I'm guessing, will want to keep their positions. Who they choose will be closely watched.

Playing hardball, I could see conservatives attempt to elect Rivera if they want to fight back now or Kettle if they want to play the long-game and wait for more favorable conditions to bring back a more clear conservative council.

In a compromising move, city council members could elect Dan Strauss from District 6. Strauss has been good about riding the political winds and changing accordingly. He would be the most progressive-friendly choice. He is also the most senior councilmember if we ignore newly-appointed Jaurez.

Yup! The moderate bloc, which held mayors office, city attorney, and the council, was elected 4 years ago and shut out progressives. The city has felt stagnant and new legislation incredibly unpopular. All blame fell to moderates who controlled city council 9-1.

Seattle DSA was obsessed with their branding and worried abt endorsing a candidate they didn't 100% agree with and may have to pull support from in the coming months/years. They were also focused on electing Westgaard to Renton city council. For better or worse, they chose "perfect" over "good"
