Higher Education Lecturer in Physiology. PhD researcher, studying the impact of carbohydrate restriction and exogenous ketones on exercise physiology. Views are my own.
Only acute, pre-exercise carb feeding enhanced performance.

This suggests that the ergogenic effects of carbs may be mediated through central nervous system mechanisms or via the prevention of hypoglycaemia, rather than through delayed metabolic pathways.

Despite the athletes being on ketogenic diets, they were still able to substantially increase carbohdyrate oxidation through both acute and two-day carbohydrate feeding.

But the two-day carbohydrate feed did not improve performance (despite increasing carbohydrate oxidation).

In athletes who has been following a ketogenic diet for at least 1 year (mean time on diet 25±12 months), we used 4 conditions to measure the impact of pre exercise carbohydrates on execrise metabolism and cycling time trial performance.

This weeks Substack - could Seamoss supplementation be beneficial for health and performance?

It’s being marketed massively on social media, I take a look into the evidence

Todays Substack posts looks at a recent study that has found MCT oil to increase EPO concentration, opening the door to the potential for chronic MCT use to enhance endurance performance.

Very soon I'll be putting the reading I've been doing for my PhD to good use and starting a weekly newsletter on Nutritional Supplements with reference to endurance exercise.

Starting Monday with 'The Supplement that Mimics Altitude Training?'. Please subscribe!

I’m enjoying getting stuck into my literature review section on ketone physiology. Endlessly fascinating #ketones
