My favourite way as a microbiologist to mess with people's minds is to recommend a 6 or a 9 day course of antibiotics
First lesson of infection training: only prescribe antibiotic duration in multiples of 5 or 7 days!

Why oh why?!

Antimicrobial duration was modal 5-7 days, although more clinicians reported longer durations for HAP and VAP than CAP. Factors associated with shorter duration included formal training in intensive care, presence of prescribing guidelines, AMS programmes and antimicrobial reviews at 48-72 hours.
