Finished 'Question 7' by Richard Flanagan - an unusual memoir covering HG Wells' life, the Hiroshima bombing, Tasmanian history, and a near-death experience. The wonderful writing takes you on a unique journey. And it won the Baillie Gifford Prize ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is your occasional reminder that Rose O'Neill, creator of the Kewpies, first published female cartoonist in the United States, and among the first cartoonists to build a merchandising empire on their work, turned out some absolutely baller, romantic-feeling size-difference monster art.

Finished 'The Day After Roswell' by Philip Corso. Fascinating "non-fiction" from a military insider, who claims the Roswell crash was real, & we've been reverse-engineering alien tech since the early 60s. Bizarre, but a must-read for any ufologist ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #booksky #authorsky #ufos #writingcommunity

Katrina was a friend of mine with profound intellectual disability, which came bundled with a whole bunch of physical disabilities.

Finished 'I Who Have Never Known Men' by Jacqueline Harpman - a 1995 novel that has recently become wildly popular. It's beautifully written & presents the human experience in a unique angle - a thought experiment on finding meaning in life. But oh my, it's depressing... #booksky #writingcommunity

A large part of being a professional writer is waiting for something/someone outside your locus of control.

If you don't have side-projects, this waiting can be wearing on the soul.

So cheat on your main project once it's at the waiting stage, and plan treats for yourself.

Saw '28 Years Later': dark and devastating - they don't make 'em like that in Hollywood! Very creative treatment of the genre, with gut punches, and some interesting takes on politics and ethical dilemmas. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #28yearslater
