I get that Shohei Ohtani is a worldwide phenom, and perhaps the greatest baseball player to ever play the game. But does anyone else think this photo makes it look like he is really struggling to throw that ball??? upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...

Ok everyone, based on a controversial NY Times crossword answer recently, tell me what you think the Roadrunner is saying:
1️⃣Meep meep!
2️⃣Beep beep!
3️⃣Hmeep hmeep!
4️⃣Some other crazy option...

I always enjoyed Robert Redford, but never realised this meme was him…

Anyway, I am going to watch my favourite film of his, The Last Castle, in memorium.
His best film? No.
I just like it.

If you think empathy is important, your response to someones death, even if they spoke out against empathy, should be tempered by empathy for others.

Finally got my copy of @rosemarymosco.com’s The Birding Dictionary.
Loving it so far, a great couch read, and breakfast book.
Funny and informative; my favourite kind.

Zelensky's decision to wear a 'suit' at his latest meeting with Trump was a smart move.
Shallow people cant be persuaded them to become 'deeper'.
Zelensky is a smart operator, he knows when to make concessions. And with something as small as this, it was a smart move (for dealing with dumb people).

I kind of think that Gavin Newsom will be able to overcome the authenticy issue that many politicians have by simply becoming more openly ambitious about his run for the presidency.
I think he will be embraced more when he is authentic about his ambition, and political pragmatism.

When someone says "the Western Alliance’s expansion into former Soviet republics", you just know Russia is happy with their version of the story gaining traction.

There is a big difference between "expanding into" versus "including"

Its only sensible if it is set up to be proportional with the number of EVs currently on the roads. If we need a way to fund road infrastructure to replace the fuel excise, then fine. But we don't want it to be a disincentive yet.
Have it only kick in when the % of cars reaches tipping point

Some quick thoughts on Hiroshima by John Hersey, in recognition of 80 years since the first atomic bombing.

This really is a great book, a very quick and poignant read.

80 years on: Hiroshima by John Hersey
Today marks 80 years since the first use of a nuclear weapon against people during wartime. By happenstance, I just finished reading this small book, Hiroshima by John Hersey. Written a year after …

@dama217h.bsky.social appears top be a genuine bot, out there supporting Trump, and sowing general division in American discourse.
I am fascinated with how these things are created and nurtured. I get why they exist on Twitter and so forth, as attention is monitsed either way. But why on BlueSky?

“Despite this change, AustralianSuper’s default balanced fund, according to latest disclosures, holds $1.74bn of shares in Aristocrat”
A bit of a token gesture.

Surely the mere fact they call themselves aristocrat is a clear message that they should be steered clear of.

How can it be both?

People need to learn from the history of social media etc and realise that while these AI tools are free and fun now, it’s only a matter time before they are seeking to monetise our use of them somehow.

Social media was the monetising of our attention, AI will be the monetisation of our decisions

Trump wants to match Obama's Nobel Peace prize so bad that he keep announcing ceasefires, even if he had nothing to do with them, or they dont even exist.

Trump should surprise everyone, and bring in sensible gun regulation. I know this is usually a no-go for Republicans, but whatever he does, his supporters rationalise anyway, so why not?

I don't get how anyone can be complaining about getting extra tax on your $3 million plus super.
Super is meant to be about helping ensure people can live comfortably in their old age. It isn't mean to be some kind of safe haven for the wealthy.
