Not a good thing mind you (updates still require internet, are a separate thing that needs to be preserved, and this doesn't preserve multiplayer), but at least the base game is still playable.

Main reason I think they did new ones for that cycle was because the S2 Plaza hadn't been used for Splatoween/Frosstyfest, and there was still S2 Splatoween/FrostyFest/SpringFest/FinalFest gear to newly give out.
