Every time we have to argue for WIC or SNAP I just lose my mind a little more. I just fundamentally don't agree that people should have to work to eat and it feels ridiculous to have to argue with people who think our labor matters more than our lives and wellness.

Means testing inevitably costs more money than it saves eliminating "fraud", and denies people who should be eligible due to bureaucratic issues, misfiled forms, errors, etc.
Same goes for drug testing, where 9 times out of 10, a spouse/relative has a stake in the no-bid contracted testing company.

Anyway, SNAP should be universal. Just like school lunches in NYC. Not everyone needs it to survive but everybody gets it, no means testing.
There should also be a lot fewer regulations on what you can buy with SNAP and discounts, not bans, on hot prepared foods.

I think what a lot of people chaffe against when it comes to a universal safety net (whether that's health, education, income, food, housing) is....who do you punish and castigate as lay abouts when everyone is afforded comfortable living standards as a right.

The most frustrating thing about my whole experience with this abscess and my gp... Is that if the ARPN had just said, I'm referring you to the wound clinic...this could've been done either on Day 1 or at least a week ago...instead she made it seem like the abscess wasn't ready....
