The fact that this isn’t among the ten worst nominations, or probably among the five worst things that will happen today, is a sign of how terrible things are, because by normal standards this is a scandalously bad appointment.

Because I am not a nice person, I have started following some subreddits that collect and revel in maga misery. It seems this hiring freeze has hit quite a few Trump supporters who were set to take low level government jobs in all sorts of departments - eg VA and IRS. They think Trump must not know.

Shutting down medical research — not just within NIH, but everywhere that’s funded by NIH — will have long-term effects on medicine & short-term effects on state, higher education & hospital budgets. This affects all of us, not just researchers.
The assault on NIH is a test for how the national media covers the Trump admin: Trump is shutting down medical research!

That is easy to communicate. Will they treat it as a 5 alarm fire in a way that forces the government to respond, or will they downplay & caveat it?

“There were 138 officers (73 Capitol Police and 65 Metropolitan Police) injured, of whom 15 were hospitalized, some with severe injuries”. How is it possible that everyone in Trumps camp would agree to pardon the people that committed these crimes? It’s so offensive.

Many Americans practice no religion. Whether our collective conscious is religious or secular, however, we must not forget that Trump’s orders on immigration and potentially other matters (e.g. cutting Medicaid that serves the poor) deserve full-throated condemnation.
We should not fall into the trap of assessing President Trump’s executive (dictatorial) decrees as “merely” lawless. Make no mistake, they ate. However, they also violate Americans’ deepest-held beliefs about right and wrong
