I didn't predict this in my book exactly, but the normalizing of supernaturalism and denying of empiricism by religious groups and "health-focused" moms and dads can lead to tremendously harmful public outcomes. Minnesota children are now at risk from measles as vaccination rates drop precipitously.

Union Park neighbors invite you to mourn with us and to demand safer, slower streets in our communities after a young woman was killed in a hit and run as she walked through the neighborhood. Stop by this evening at 5:13 near the corner of St. Anthony and Aldine (not far from Allianz Field).

Or, just hang out in your Saint Paul backyard.

Well, hello

Lesson #4: People love old stuff. Galena, IL is a collection of old preserved buildings full of candle shops; a kind of Stillwater writ huge. I-94 has old neighborhoods on both sides with features that aren't cared for or marketed as destinations, and the highway roars by. What are we doing??

Lesson #3: Towns that are fighting to survive their highways aren't shy about supporting the small businesses remaining in their downtowns and neighborhoods. This little coffee house in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri has a tiny manicured town park next door. The street is more vibrant than Nicollet Mall!

Lesson #1: Driving speed is the purpose of whatever happens with I-94. "Mobility" means vehicle speed and that's @mndot.mn.gov's goal. Even before we talk about destroyed local economies, let's talk about how speed compromises safety. There were fresh crashes a-plenty all along my trip.

The @startribune.bsky.social, located steps from yesterday's astonishingly large public protest in downtown Minneapolis, and ostensibly now covering the entire state where there were hundreds of events, forgot to put them on the front page.

Some thematic, anti-violence alignment today with @salspice.bsky.social
It will always be RIP Cricket 💔

Aaaand @mndot.mn.gov is now tearing out a key bridge along I-94. It's not unsafe, but with this investment there will be less reason to actually "Rethink" I-94 to the west. So much inefficiency (or motonormative strategy?) it boggles the mind.

What a dreamy mid-sized residence in Denver. So many buildings like this in leafy neighborhoods...love the large terraces. Definitely a good reason to tear out sfhs or surface parking or both.

Oct 1 Marshall hill bike count results, 6 - 9:30 a.m.
EB Marshall 82, WB Marshall 81, TL 163; Best guess 25% electric (40 ⚡ visually confirmed). 47 addl bikes turning/proceeding at bottom of hill before counting line.

City-to-city bike traffic astoundingly equal! Bravo cyclists! Summary to come.

Good morning 🌞 we're out here again celebrating (and counting) all you intrepid bicyclists on Marshall hill. Bike traffic from Saint Paul to Minneapolis continues to dominate.

Do you also receive curated "4 years ago" photos of highways from walks through your otherwise nice-ish city neighborhood? Here's Fairview underneath I-94 in 2021. So pretty 😭

Marshall hill bike count results from Montrose Place counting point between 6-9:30 a.m. today: 60 eastbound; 58 westbound, 118 total. Of these, approximately 24 electric (20%). We saw 2 passengers (1 toddler, 1 v. fluffy dog). 40 more bikes turned b4 our spot.

Not bad for a remote work Friday!

Not much traffic at all, yet. But the B Line is doing good business. Here's an atmospheric shot

Good morning, cyclists! We're here on the Marshall hill to count each and every one of you. Say hello between deep breaths and thanks for not driving!

Don't know if it was the crowd of friends or the talent that delighted me tonight but what a brutally funny and mutually tender bi-coastal YIMBY party. Great job @sustainstpaul.bsky.social and @moreneighbors.org I hope you raised one million dollars ❤️ (if you missed it you can still donate!)

You may find non-religious people repugnant, but at least we'd never worship Gods that allow so much suffering.
