It is corporate media’s decision to abandon the practice of journalism that has allowed fascism to thrive. Journalism challenges authority and holds power to account. Most mainstream media organizations instead choose to publish inoffensive and noncontentious ‘content’ because profits.
We kept being told that journalism was a bulwark against fascism, a "fourth estate". This is the liberal frame for perceiving the industry's worth. But the reality is the polar opposite: fascism has been allowed to thrive, and could not have done so, without journalism.
