Fun Tariff Facts: during the depression the US lost access to many imported paper products. They were replaced with an unusually tough paper stock made of hemp from the Philippines (then a US colony, and tariff exempt).
Anyway, that’s why they were, and still are, called Manila folders /

Been thinking a lot lately about the morals of Jesus of Nazareth.
As a tan man from the Middle East, if Jesus were an undocumented American immigrant, I wonder if angry mobs would get ICE to deport him — especially for speaking out against greed and advocating for the poor.

This is painful, and saddening, and embarrassing. I feel like we're losing a member of the family - and for no good reason other than that some Americans wanted another season of the worst reality TV show in history.

Along with all of the other things that this is, it is also the direct & inevitable consequence of the failure to put a lot more senior executive branch officials in jail for a very long time for Watergate, Iran-Contra, torture, & all of the other things in the last 50 years.

I do not like these thoughts, but I gotta admit I am thinking that if there are strings attached to federal aid for Los Angeles, they should be "California will please continue to provide all the fruits, vegetables, and television shows, as well as continue to allow access to our largest port."
