College cats of Oxford
Once upon a time, we featured an image of Magdalen's kitten, Ozymandias, in our newsletter. We figured it might be a gentle contrast to our regular diet of planning and local politics. The grey ball ...

An interesting example of how a non-grid operator can achieve a (temporary) grid connection using a battery. Once the grid operator has made the permanent connections, the battery can be used elsewhere.

A temporary variant on contestable build that can be scaled further?

That consumer products now form a significant part of the energy system is an ongoing challenge for planners, but a key driver of the transition.

It's going to be 16 degrees in the UK tonight. On Guy Fawkes Night. A night when you should be stood out in the cold, watching your breath freeze, clutching a scalding hot baked potato and watching fireworks by the light of a bonfire.

And now I know where the phrase 'redneck' comes from. Turns out it's one to be proud of. A bit like treehugger.
JD Vance claims that diversity weakens unions, as people end up distrusting each other and not organizing.

Let me tell you two menswear stories related to this claim. 🧵

Many years ago I ran a campaign aimed at getting European car manufacturers to improve the efficiency of their fleets. We produced a guide of existing technologies (for ICE cars, it was a while back) that would have made a significant impact if installed in all new cars.
Just two decades ago, China had little capacity to manufacture cars — and owning one was considered a novelty.

Today, China produces and exports more cars than any other country in the world.

Meanwhile we in Europe still pretend we can somehow stop EVs from taking off by holding on to old tech.

Yes we're making progress on cleaning up our act. But we are so, so late with it. Our generation will go down as the ones who deprived our descendants of so much stuff.

One for the 'The future is here, it just isn't evenly distributed yet' file.

Worth noting that there's no special reason for Norway to be good at electric cars. It's a big place, with a low density of people some of whom live in remote areas. But they made a decision, and did it.
It's absolutely astonishing: In just about 13 years, Norway has skyrocketed from virtually no sales of zero-emission battery electric vehicles to nearly 100% of all new passenger car purchases.
