On Aug 24, 1869, Ohio Rep. John Bingham, principal framer of the 14th amendment, gave a remarkable speech on “Equal Rights-Impartial Suffrage,” in which he said of those who sought to reject the principal of birthright citizenship, “no greater political atrocity than this can possibly be committed.”

I have rehabilitated about 40 vintage Singer machines but never met one this dirty. It is actually worse than shows here. Looks as if something was living in it. And yet the mechanism moves freely. Singer 15-91 from 1924

Standing outside the gates of the Qu'Appelle Indian residential school. This a haunted dark place. A 5-year-old taken through these gates had a lower chance of survival than a Canadian soldier fighting in WW2.
The red dress and the orange shirt hang on the gates.

WELL. Looks like “unpaid work” isn’t fully over for Air Canada flight attendants after all.

New details are coming out that suggest flight attendants will only be paid at 50% of their hourly rate for pre-take off tasks.

Air Canada, pay your workers!!

Wrote about the most violent day in D.C.'s history, January 6, 2021, the current takeover of that city by the guy who instigated it, the right-wing snowflakes complaining they're afraid to walk down the street, and why the right fears and loathes cities (and lies about why). Bonus Epstein finale.

Just completed a checkup on an old Singer. A Singer 28k with original handcrank, dated 1904 (from ISMACS data base). Very clean & little wear on the decals, suggesting not much used during its long life. The base & the coffin top need a little refreshing of the finish but no damage.

The world watched Canada's election closely. We are on the front lines of the fight to defend the rule of law.
Our nation needs to step up for the big picture and not squander this moment with squabbles and partisan turf wars.
