For those of a certain age (born ~1975-1985) who grew up at least a little in video game culture, I endorse Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. It's not a perfect book (what book is?), but it is A Great American Novel and is enormously ambitious, evocative, provoking, heartfelt, and (mostly) real.
