This is @Dave_Eby laying the groundwork for a possible deal with @MarkJCarney.

BTW, where do you think Eby learned his anti-Ottawa politics from @abdaniellesmith?

Turns out other provinces can use your playbook against you.

Ohhhh, the irony! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The irony is strong with @abdaniellesmith, folks.

Why does Alberta need a 1MM b/d pipeline to the West Coast when it will soon have another 400k b/d to the south?

And another 300k if TMX ever optimizes?

Don't forget the additional 250k available if other southbound pipelines optimize.

"...to become an energy superpower in both clean and conventional energies..."

What is clean energy?

Simply deploying wind, solar, and batteries in provincial grids?

Or does it mean manufacturing them? Building out their supply chains from top to bottom?

What's the strategy?

Better cancel this year's War on Christmas, Canada.

Trump's signature "Weekend at Bernies" vibe.

I'm interviewing Gil Mcgowan, prez of Alberta Federation of Labour, about the Canadian labour movement's response to Danielle Smith invoking the Notwithstanding Clause to end the Alberta teachers' strike.

Constitutional crisis, indeed.

What happens when your most important friend has a gigantic brain fart and, for no reason, acts in ways that threaten the friendship?

You stand up for yourself. You put some steel in your spine and your words.

You behave honourably.

These clowns are dishonourable.

Trump's tariffs are luring automakers back to the US. China's punishing Prairie canola farmers b/c of Canada's 100% tariff on Chinese EVs.

Is there a smart solution to Canada's predicament?

We might have one.

Imagine a future in which Canada builds a 1MM b/d pipeline to the West Coast and the Alberta oil sands expands to fill that pipe...but no new jobs are created.

Imperial Oil layoffs may be the future of oil sands employment.

I dare you to compare the comments of Canada's Energy Minister Tim Hodgson and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith on oil and gas, and find a sliver of difference between them.

Agreeing with Smith on energy is a bad look for anyone.
September 29, 2025 at 3:56 PM
Oof. I couldn't think of a more concise criticism of @mark-carney.bsky.social's economic strategy.

If Danielle Smith thinks you're doing a good job, time for a rethink.

CAPP is the lobbying voice of the Canadian oil/gas industry. Energy ≠ hydrocarbons.

Energy is also electricity generated by wind, solar (and stored in batteries), hydro, nuclear, advanced geothermal.

Welcome to the Age of Electricity, @OilGasCanada. You're gonna hate it.

One of my favourite S-curve graphs. From the USDA, but Western Canada followed the same trajectory. ICE cars are the horses of 100 years ago. OPEC, the Saudis, Danielle Smith, and the Albert oil CEOs think differently.

Good luck, Alberta.
August 30, 2025 at 12:54 PM
An "energy superpower" is a country that can move markets (eg the Saudis with oil, USA with LNG).

Canada is NEVER going to be an "energy superpower."

Minister Tim Hodgson is a Canadian oil/gas insider, industry cheerleader.

Wrong person to be federal energy minister during the energy transition.
August 30, 2025 at 12:21 PM
Ah, yes, Alberta's ongoing campaign against "dictator oil."

The same Middle Eastern dictators @abdaniellesmith publicly quotes ad nauseam.

Hey, @brianjeanab, you can't be buddies with OPEC and the Saudis when it's convenient, and enemies the rest of the time.

#hypocrites

Ethically produced oil and gas?

*~$260 BILLION of unfunded environmental liabilities
*~80,000 inactive wells
*Only $1B in oil sands mines facilities program to fund reclamation
*26% of Canada's GHGs

That's ethical, @brianjeanab?
August 21, 2025 at 2:43 PM
Alternative view: since 2015 the Alberta-based oil and gas industry has funded a giant disinformation machine.

Some of that disinformation is outright lies, some of it bends the truth until it is unrecognizable.

Industry has no one to blame but itself.
August 20, 2025 at 3:12 PM
Uh, no. 65,000 b/d to India and 49,000 b/d to Spain. Both numbers are lower than a year ago.

That's a total of 114,000 b/d.

2.5 years ago, the total was ~375,000 b/d.

Is that what you call growth, @brianjeanab?
August 20, 2025 at 2:31 PM
Another example of thinking that oil's future will look like its past.

The iea is forecasting ZERO oil demand growth in China from now until 2030. Sinopec, CNPC, PekingU forecast decline after 2030.

Who'll buy AB's oil then? C'mon, brianjeanab, be better.
August 9, 2025 at 4:11 PM
This is the voice of incumbency and self-interest.

@SecretaryWright was CEO of an O&G service company. More gas for power generation means more work for his sector.

But don't be smug, Canada. Incumbents (oil, utilities, mining, finance, etc) are an even bigger problem for us, IMO.
August 9, 2025 at 11:19 AM
Um, Alberta? We have a problem.

"Under today’s policy settings, electric cars are set to exceed 40% of global car sales by 2030, with emerging markets gaining share. Demand is picking up in Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand, Viet Nam & beyond as more affordable models hit the market."

If the energy war room is for it, then you know something's being hidden, left out, or manipulated.

The war room is a propaganda mill.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
August 6, 2025 at 6:10 PM
I can already hear the chucklehead chorus in Alberta screaming about the sun not always shining etc.

But electrification is the global trend.

Why build an oil pipeline to Prince Rupert when the competition (electricity) is eating your lunch?
