Where it's going is that I would like to see a link to a reliable primary source of that statement. Because it sounds interesting, but social media is not a good basis for policy making.

Of course we should still go after those who deliberately cheat the system for personal gain. And when mistakes are discovered, it's right that they are corrected. 5/6

If something good comes out of this, it will be that Rayner, and her colleagues, recognise that taxpayers are not the enemy, to be stung for every possible penny. And that it's admirable to want to do the best for your family, even if you don't always get it quite right. 4/6

What is her fault, though, is that she's spent her entire political career demonising other people who are also grappling with the complexity of the tax system and not always getting it right. And that's where the allegations of hypocrisy stack up. 3/6

It's not her fault that HMRC's rules on stamp duty are arcane and counterintuitive. I'm sure plenty of other people have been caught out by this particular gotcha, too. 2/6
