When you do, I'm begging for you to get out of the core of the city and see what infrastructure is like in the rest of the city.
It's nice you can get around downtown, but it's so hostile to get around if you live elsewhere in the city- which is why ridership barely improves every year.

If nothing else they serve as a visual reminder that cyclists have a right to be on the road. Does it make cycling safer? Absolutely not. But as you say, the bar is so low.
