Cat. 5 storms reach 157–192 mph, scientists propose a new Category 6 for speeds over 192mph, these are rare but as "climate change increases temperature and moisture, which are the sources of energy for hurricanes, the number of powerful storms is expected to increase" www.pbsnc.org/blogs/scienc....
Do We Need a “Category 6” for Hurricanes? | PBS North Carolina
A new category for hurricane intensity may be needed as storms become more fierce due to climate change.

Following up on my staking set restoration that went well, I decided I would clean the tarnish off my Jacot tool and it cleaned up nicely. A friend is currently doing some repairs to the box it lives in. Before and after shots.

Inspired by a YouTube channel I follow (The Second Hand), I decided to spend a few hours today cathartically restoring a vintage K&D watchmaker staking set I own. #horology

This whole thread. I’m quoting the punchline because that’s where the meat is, but go back and read it all.
It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap

I think I’m officially old enough that there’s an inherent conflict to the tried and true “hydrate and sleep” strategy to getting over flu-like illnesses. I hydrated so much I had to get up 4 times overnight to pee, so my rest overnight was terrible.

This is, in a word, bullshit.
The largest wildfire burning in the state of Washington is still alive today thanks to brave federal U.S. Border Patrol and ICE agents who arrested firefighters caught in the act of attempting to kill it.

A chance elevator encounter with @flavorflav.bsky.social was not on my bingo card. Thanks for the chat and the 206 greetings!

So good and a must watch. @scott.hanselman.com I know that having 800 friends but no one to call was a clever quip, but feel free to call anytime. Or ping me on Teams -- during your work hours. :D
I just wanted to say, I’m probably more proud of this Ted talk than just about anything I’ve ever done so I’m gonna be absolutely useless for the next couple of weeks as I promote the shit out of this because I want you to watch it because it matters in the moment we are in youtu.be/dVG8W-0p6vg

Today's nerdy project: (1/3) created a Discord server for supporters of my local USL2 semi-pro soccer club, wrote a python script to scrape the club's website and events, then wrapped it in a Discord bot to create events for the server.

Spot on. This is the clearest explanation I’ve seen. It ‘s relatable, and humanizes the issue in a way everyone can understand.

Things I was not warned about heading into adulthood and home ownership: the periodic reality of a predator eating half a rabbit in your walkway and leaving the other half (in pieces) behind for cleanup. 🤮

Love sitting at a sidewalk bistro in Paris when the waiter discretely says “be careful” and then points out the drug deal happening 5 feet to my left.

I hate these people, and I know someone is going to say that we should be trying to reach them, but I am sick of playing along with their bullshit. They knew, they didn't care until it impacted their community.
Yes, you did vote to deport moms.
