It's good that Dick is (allegedly) stepping away from baseball ops. But the Rockies need a lot more than one upper-level hire to turn the ship around, that's for sure. The roots are poisoned.

Letting players decide where they want to play is a good thing, actually. Especially when they're seasoned pros like Yamamoto.

I think the only part they messed up was that Ashby also opened Game 1 and pitched to the top of the LA order in Game 2. He's seen the same section of the order three games in a row. I wasn't surprised when they got good PAs off him.

It's interesting to think about when there's no clear answer. Even on a matchup level —setting the 13 AB sample aside— Carpenter is just a nightmare matchup for Kirby based on what pitches he handles and doesn't handle. I don't think there's a single "good" decision Dan Wilson could've made there.
