still setting things up around here and searching for old mutuals, but I’m Marianne, a Coptic illustrator, background artist in animation, and sapphic SFF writer :)

Centered in the back of the temple is a raised, stone, rectangular pool of water, where two nude women sit shrouded in shadow, locked in an embrace and kissing, their hair and skin damp. Their clothes, dirtied and bloodied, are discarded in front of the pool. An unsheathed sword leans against the edge of the pool. Behind them, upon a squared pedestal, remains two giant, stone feet of a destroyed sculpture. Moiraine and Siuan from the Wheel of Time series lie in bed within a fishing hut, curtain half-drawn behind them, letting in a soft sliver of golden sunlight. Moiraine is on her back, dark hair spilled across her pillow and shoulders, her long, white sleeping shirt parted over her chest. Siuan rests to her side, leaning over her in a cascade of curls, her red, paisley robe slipping from her tattooed shoulder. They are smiling fondly at each other. Moiraine cradles Siuan's jaw in one hand and clutches Siuan's arm with the other, which lies across her middle, holding her side. Siuan's other hand rests atop Moiraine's head. Moiraine has one bare calf hooked around the back of Siuan's knee. A portrait of a woman in the lower half of the frame. She clutches her hands to her mouth, flames bursting out from between her fingers and illuminating her face. Her eyes are wide open and glow yellow. Two trails of smoke spill out from either side of her hands. Her long, dark hair flows toward the top of the frame. A portrait of a woman, her hands raised overhead, holding the hilt of a sword, and stabbing downwards toward the bottom left frame. Her face is contorted in rage, lit warmly from sparks below, as her curly, dark hair whips backward and upwards. Where the sword overlaps her face, in the flat of its blade, we see a different face of a red-eyed, snake-haired woman.

This time last year I began to work on a pitch for an animated adaptation of New Spring, prequel to #TheWheelofTime It felt like an obvious candidate for animation as a perfect blend of magic school hijinks, amateur sleuthing, and harrowing, coming-of-age trials.
