"Beware of any Christian movement that acts as though the world is full of enemies to be destroyed rather than full of neighbors to be loved.

Beware of any Christian movement that demands the government be an instrument of God's wrath, but never a source of God's mercy, generosity, or compassion."

@durbin.senate.gov Hold the Line! ACA subsidies need to be part of the deal. Not a promise that they won’t keep anyway! Hold the line!

To welcome and defend children, then, is to turn toward Jesus himself. And to turn away from children—to neglect, starve, or endanger them—is to extend the crucifixion to them, writes Yanan Melo.

I’m deeply concerned about my students’ opportunities to eat after next week. I’ve started a monthly donation to The Chicago Food Depository. My school distributes food from them to the neighborhood monthly. It used to be bimonthly. Will you join me? www.chicagosfoodbank.org/find-food-2/

Today, in the face of Trump’s attacks on our schools and communities, Mayor Brandon Johnson has proposed a historic $1 billion TIF surplus in his 2026 “Protect Chicago” budget.

Now City Council must meet the moment and vote YES to fund our schools.

This is Chicago’s tradition of solidarity.

The "common good" is a set of shared values about what we owe one another as citizens who are bound together in the same society. A concern for the common good—keeping the common good in mind—is a moral attitude. It recognizes that we’re all in it together.

Our country is deep in murky shadows. I'm standing on my front stoop holding a candle and ringing a bell and listening for your bells and looking for your candles. I hope you don't feel alone either. 🔔🕯️

Just watched one video of police walking an elderly veteran in handcuffs away from a protest against the military parade followed by a video of Pete Buttigieg talking about delivering a flag to family of a soldier who died in the line of duty. The dissonance is jarring.

“There are subtle, yet powerful, influences in the world, some even claiming to represent Christ, that seek to divide people and nations to accomplish their destructive aims. That which seeks to harden one human heart against another by constructing walls of fear and prejudice is not of God.”

Such a strange thing when the pillars of your childhood - the adults you loved and looked up to - begin to diminish and pass on. Grandparents, uncles, aunts. You expect it of course. But it’s like watching the edge of the world fall away.

Interesting but not surprising to this Gen-Xer that is a rock and roll magazine speaking truth to power. In the 80s it was the rockers that spoke out about the AIDS epidemic and world hunger.

Passion Week, we remember the God of Love and Justice seen in Jesus Christ
…not the god of empire
…not the idol of nationalism
…not the god of worldly “greatness”
…not the idol of self & self-obsession
…not the god of wrath & death
…but the opportunity to see God in the cross & new life. #cofchrist
