In case you missed it, my latest post is on the horrible story of the Levite's concubine. I posted it, coincidentally, on November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Was the Levite’s Concubine Angry or an Adulterer? - Marg Mowczko
Due to a misunderstanding of the Hebrew text, the Levite's concubine is profoundly insulted in some English translations of Judges 19:2.

His lists are more about what women can't do.

There are several Marys in the NT, but little attention is usually given to Mary, the mother of James & Joseph.
6 times she is named side by side with Mary Magdalene in Matthew and Mark. In Luke, she is named with Mary M. & Joanna.
What do we know of this other Mary?

There's a film term called "rack focus", where the camera doesn't move, but the cinematographer shifts focus of the lens from one image to another. So grateful for the "rack focus" from men to the women in the Bible. @margmowczko.bsky.social

The chosen lady ("kyria") in 2 John is almost certainly an individual woman who functioned as a house church leader.

She was a spiritual mother of a group of Christian disciples.

Paul describes some women in the Ephesian church as "little women who are weighed down by sins, led by various passions, always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Paul was not happy!

Were Shepherds Despised Outcasts in Jesus’s time?

With the Christmas season approaching, I thought I'd share what I discovered when looking at the ancient evidence behind the claim that shepherds were despised outcasts in first-century Israel.

I was reminded of the Queen of Sheba today. She is mentioned in 1 Kings 10:1–13 and 2 Chronicles 9:1–12 in the Hebrew Bible as well as in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke in the New Testament.

Here are a few words about her and three other powerful women in the Bible.
