The chosen lady ("kyria") in 2 John is almost certainly an individual woman who functioned as a house church leader.

She was a spiritual mother of a group of Christian disciples.

The Elder and the Lady: A look at the language of 2 John - Marg Mowczko
In this post I look at the words the author of 2 John uses to identify the people he is writing to, including the chosen, or elect, lady.

Paul describes some women in the Ephesian church as "little women who are weighed down by sins, led by various passions, always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth."

Paul was not happy!

Were Shepherds Despised Outcasts in Jesus’s time?

With the Christmas season approaching, I thought I'd share what I discovered when looking at the ancient evidence behind the claim that shepherds were despised outcasts in first-century Israel.

Many Bible women were not as restricted or as passive as we are sometimes led to believe.

I was reminded of the Queen of Sheba today. She is mentioned in 1 Kings 10:1–13 and 2 Chronicles 9:1–12 in the Hebrew Bible as well as in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke in the New Testament.

Here are a few words about her and three other powerful women in the Bible.

1. In early Latin translations of the New Testament, and in the Vulgate, the Greek word "authentein," used in 1 Timothy 2:12, is translated as "dominari" ("to dominate"). These translations were done when Koine Greek, the language of the New Testament, was still a living language.

When we pay attention to the verbs Paul uses in Ephesians 5:25-30, we can see what Paul actually wanted the Ephesian husbands to do.
