Weigel: Authoritarian—that’s a fine word to use. If we were watching Canada do this, or France do this, right now—say, ‘We’re not letting any Americans into the school for political reasons’—we’d probably use that word. So I don’t know why it would be anathema when it’s happening here.

what booker is doing right now is an example of what i mean when i say things like “we need more ambition right now.” there is room in american politics right now for people with ambition to take big stands and reap the rewards. he’s doing it!
