In the outcry about ICE killing of Renee Nicole Good, we must continue to call out ICE's daily, horrific targeting of people based on mere suspicion, too often race/ethnicity based, of being here without legal grounds and subjecting them to kidnapping, torture, deportation, and, yes, death.

Disinterest or disbelief greeted my comment to people next to me leaving “Fidelio” at the Metropolitan Opera. “New York prisons are just as bad.” Few engaged. One woman who did ask questions had not heard about the man killed by guards. I repeated his name as we parted – “Robert Brooks.”
