*Bows head* “I will always remember the lesson of [thing I made up], which is [retroactive justification of my beliefs].”
i’m old enough to remember when the obama administration pulled the public option from the ACA. i was 19 and had just voted for the first time. that moment made me realize that the livelihoods of americans will always be a secondary consideration to the needs of the fortune 500

From a more theoretical perspective I think TikTok and the broader advances in recommendation systems that allow networks to de-deemphasize follower graphs is breaking the cartel that writers have had on discourse for centuries.

I’m not super optimistic about how that will shake out.

AOC has committed the cardinal sin of holding power, and must therefore be disavowed at all costs lest others begin to be tempted by the idea.
lot of people seem convinced AOC is not actually a leftist despite her being one of the most left wing members of the caucus

i see this kind of stuff all of the time now and i find it so enraging from a “show some basic social propriety” standpoint.

One of the core tenets of Bluesky's users is that online harassment is never acceptable. I hope this piece I wrote for The Free Press sparks a larger conversation about how to improve the site's climate.

Jesse Singal: Bluesky Has a Death Threat Problem
It was supposed to be a gentler, left-wing alternative to X. My grim experience proves that just isn’t the case.

Obama wasn’t perfect (nobody is perfect) but he was mostly right about the biggest issues and post-2012 shifts in Democratic Party ideology have mostly been change for the worse.

What’s crazy to me about this is that Slate, TAP, and TNR have all gotten so left wing that there is no longer a magazine that stands up for the popular and clearly correct “Obama was good” viewpoint.

But we have Slow Boring!

An excellent point. Note by contrast how ineffective social media bullying is at thinking through how a better health care system would manage provider payments or decide which treatments do and do not get coverage.
something I've started asking myself

to what degree are we choosing a fight because it's easy to accomplish online?

eg, text-based micro-blogging platforms make it very easy to check if someone uses certain words in their posts

but what is the theory of change here, what follows from word usage?

Or better yet, just create a new party and leave behind the Open Borders people, the Defund the Police people, the Hamas guys, and all the leftist extremists. The mainstream media likes to slap all these ideas on the Dem party - just let these guys keep the Dem name and move onto to something else.
