i also made a magnetic hide to make the empty height of the tank a little more usable for cowboy while the plants grow in. hopefully he fits through the opening lol

in the meantime i had a spare 18x18x36, which i just finished designing for cowboy today :)

my final update with the ikea cabinet terrarium conversion is that unfortunately, i did a shit job sealing the bottom wood piece, and moisture seeped into it over time, causing it to rot and mold. So the terrarium got dismantled last month.

ball python at the pet store said shes a fish now lol. Yes there was barely any water left in the bowl because she displaced onto the substrate everything with her fat little body

i did a bit of a rescape a few weeks ago. i think this composition has better flow, and the fish stand out way better

enclosure is finally planted and in my friend's place! i think it turned out great, and im excited to see it again in a few months when the pothos and ivy start vining up the back

Background complete!! all that's left is to get some good lights and plant it up. This will have to wait a few weeks for my friend to be free, as there is no sense is planting it here only to transport it horizontally in my car haha

took the bg out for two more coats of brown, as i realized dry brushing would be impossible with the wood in place lol. heres the bg after 1 brush of dark brown, then 1 brush of light brown

playing around with the hardscape now! the idea is to make it look like a tree coming out of the ground. the pots will be hidden behind some expanding foam, which will then be painted with drylok and cement tint as well

added some deeper channels, hardened the foam using a heat gun, then added a black base coat using drylok and cement tint

i moved on to the background because i was tired of dealing with leaks lol. I carved the XPS foam with a drill and a wire drill attachment. I will go back and carve some more channels into the bg later.

the two build videos I watched to prepare for this both had the front glass further back, but that left a gap between the door and the base, which accumulated dirt. I didn't want that, so I pulled the glass all the way forward, and am banking on the silicone in the back to waterproof the wood, haha
