Incredible story about where the whole "Tren de Aragua" panic came from. Moe Tkacik is one of the best reporters in America.
We've got a great feature for you today at @theprospect.bsky.social from Moe Tkacik.
It's about how Tren de Aragua—an arcane obsession of organized crime buffs—became the latest villain that threatens our way of life.
It started as an alibi for a Denver-area apartment developer with code violations.

i do not think the mainstream press is equipped or capable of covering ideological white nationalists and eugenicists as such, or even capable of noting that this is what they are. it is related to the wide belief that racism is simply a matter of manners.
It would appear CNN was also at the eugenics conference? Why are all these mainstream news orgs at a 200-person event where all the speakers are eugenicists and racists? www.cnn.com/2025/04/11/u...

If you think what happened to Rumeysa Ozturk can't happen to you because you're a citizen and she's not, you are sorely mistaken. Ozturk was snatched off the street not for being a national security threat but for having a wrong opinion. If we don't put a stop to this, it's coming for all of us.

A point I like to make is that I was a toddler when federal courts were forcing certain Texas school districts to abide by desegregation orders. It’s not just within living memory. Some of us in *Gen X* were actually alive as the fed govt went about forcibly integrating some institutions.
I still find it annoying that ppl will say segregation was a long time ago.. when literally our grandma's & grandpa's were raised during segregation.

Our parents were the first gen of integration in the USA. Like we're not far off at all 🙃

That's why there are so many 1st gen college students🙄
