that is shrimp season, that's when the winter shrimps come out. I propose a new holiday called shrimpus, we honor the shrimp and the thawing of the snow by placing flowers in vernal pools
tbh I think it’s a huge issue that North American/Anglo culture has this horrible stretch between January 1st and Easter of zero spirit-raising holidays with pretty decorations - that’s a lot of winter bleakness to get through

Every society that experiences winter does something in the middle of winter to cheer everyone up. It might be tied into religion, but it serves biology as well.
