A true masterpiece, from a sadly underrated director.
Héctor Babenco’s Kiss of the Spider Woman, an excellent adaptation of Puig’s novel shining through the great performances of Raul Julia and Willian Hurt, a must watch before JLo’s musical version erases it from memory. In the Criterion Channel

Now listening, though really I should have listened to this on Wednesday.
Amazing, of course.
Ed Blackwell's playing on The Prophet makes me wonder if he ever played with Monk?

You know how it is: you wait ages for a good muon anomalous magnetic moment story to come along, and then two come along at once. Here's the first, which analyses the final results from Fermilab's Muon g-2 experiment: physicsworld.com/a/muon-g-2-a... 🧪⚛️

The present does not exist either, but created by our imperfect perception and idiosyncratic cognitive processes.
The past does not exist, can never be observed and therefore all we can or will ever know about it comes to us indirectly (though not necessarily inaccurately) through messy human intermediaries’ interpretations.
What’s something that’s a banal observation in your field, but which really blows students’ minds the 1st time they encounter it?

I’ll go 1st—when we talk about how technological history gets narrated & I say "no human being has ever lived in a historical period—they’ve only lived in the present"

Wrapping in my cape now for further adventures.
