I had one of those working for me once. I had originally declined to hire him, but the company owner overruled me. We were working on a networked game, and he was always expecting all data to be available immediately. He just couldn't get his head around it.

There were a lot of Agent-and-Woman-Sidekick shows (e.g. Remington Steele or Scarecrow & Mrs. King) in the 1980s, but part of the schtick was usually that the women were total normies. They weren't nerds like, say, Felicity in Arrow.

While the role often involves hacking, it doesn't necessarily. Primarily, it's about providing realtime information and guidance about a field mission, from a distance.

Charlie was not a micromanager. He'd give you a briefing and a debriefing, but I think he was largely hands-off apart from that.

"Street Hawk" is another near-miss, The lead was a cop injured in the line of duty, and not a 'nam vet.

"Tales of the Gold Monkey" has a war vet with a cool vehicle, but it's the wrong war.

MacGuyver inexplicably drove a pretty boring jeep. If he'd had a cool car, he'd have totally made the list.

The last two seasons only have four episodes each, and take two years to come out.
