Fossil of the day is Majungasaurus! It was a late Cretaceous Abelisaurid from Africa. One species is known, M. crenatissimus. The name means Mahajanga Lizard. Evidence on the fossil species points to the fact that some species of dinosaurs may have partaken in cannibalism, postmortem or otherwise!

A Majungasaurus defends its pilfered nest from a dastardly Simosuchus. The Simosuchus is caught red handed with egg on its face. A lot of speculation is used for this piece; the life appearance of the Majungasaurus with facial rugosities, the omnivorous pseudosuchian, the flora of prehistoric and arid Madagascar, and more big words that make me seem smart. Two Masiakasaurus try to fight a Madtsoia in the ancient Madagascar bogs. In the background I just realized that I put two Mahajangasuchus as well. This piece was inspired by the late Steve Irwin, whos videos I watched for reference for the snake and background. Good times, I should watch those documentaries again. A forest scene where Falcatakely comes back to their nest to find it ransacked and their mate attacked while a flock of Rahonavis watch ominously at what they did. Strangely another egg plundering art, its not a lot but its weird that I thought about making it twice. This one looking back feels too dark and I probably anthropomorphized the animals too much. The open mouth shock and the preening at blood feathers looks too much like theyre using their wing hide in shame. Lots of stuff id do differently. Still proud of the wings tho. A Beelzebufo on a log in the swamps of Madagascar, Rahonavis in its mouth. This must have been a mix of comedy by drawing the famous frog, on a log, as well as catharsis from the previous drawing where Rahonavis was used as a villain archetype. The reference photos were great to look up, horned frogs are adorable goofy, tho one study recently postulates that it could be closely related to Hylids, or tree frogs.

There's evidence of cannibalism between them (as depicted), plus their thick skull and unicorn would've been really useful in intraspecific combat for territory and mating #paleoart
