It’s incredible that the President of the United States is openly flirting with suspending Habeas Corpus, disappearing people left and right, arresting judges and politicians, accepting ludicrous bribes from foreign countries, and people are still trying to normalize this shit.

Today in history, 1971: About 900 Vietnam veterans and several Gold Star parents begin a five-day demonstration in Washington, D.C. On April 23, about 1,000 veterans threw their medals and other items onto the Capitol steps. On April 24, 200,000 rallied on the Washington Mall. /1

One point that's going to get lost in the discussion of #SCOTUS's intervention in the Alien Enemy Act case:

This is the *value* of nationwide injunctions. Without them, you have to go district by district, and the government can try to play games by moving people to districts without relief (yet).

It is SO unusual for the Supreme Court to issue an order this late at night and honestly incredible only Thomas and Alito noted their dissents.

Also fascinating that SCOTUS rushed out the order before Alito could finish writing his dissent. That basically never happens! Again—majority seems pissed.

Surreal to see this analysis in a staid financial publication like the Financial Times. It’s less of a surprise that this play is the only way to avoid the threat of prison post-presidency.

The surprise is that the Silicon Valley braintrust’s big idea for the future is Trump as president for life.

Either the U.S. government *is* able to exert monetary and diplomatic pressure on El Salvador sufficient to produce Abrego Garcia’s release, or it isn’t.

The latter would be either a bald-faced lie or a pretty stunning concession of our national impotence. The Vice President should pick one.

A whistleblower tells Congress and NPR that DOGE may have taken sensitive labor data and hid its tracks. "None of that ... information should ever leave the agency," said a former NLRB official.
