The other paper (also by @lauradee.bsky.social but this time working with @jebyrnes.bsky.social ) focuses more specifically on the issue of unobserved confounding (using a nice marine ecology example).

We showed how hunting patterns change dynamically with respect to human and landscape‐related features. We also demonstrated complex hunting patterns along the gradient of human influence, therefore questioning the use of proxies such as the distance to the village to account for hunting pressure.
