Thrilled to share our newly published paper and my first first-author paper. We used hunting sign data from long-term monitoring in the Ebo forest, Littoral-Cameroon, to explore the spatiotemporal patterns of hunting activities.

In an #unprotected landscape known as a hotspot of hunting-induced defaunation, we found #primate encounter rates and multispecies groups similar to observations in protected areas within the same ecoregion.

When curiosity meets curiosity👀😊

These two #chimpanzees paused to inspect our #camera trap📷, reminding us that observation goes both ways. They didn’t just pass by. They investigated, offering a glimpse into their world and perhaps wondering about ours.

#ICCB2025 plenary speaker Amy van Nice from the Wildlife Alliance is sharing hard truths from work to combat the illegal wildlife trade. Among the many challenges, funding systems are biased towards short-term projects, and donor priorities are often misaligned with on-ground needs. #conservation

In Cameroon with students from Göttingen university. Two days of hiking and discussing with the mayor of Mbankomo the remaining biodiversity in Yaounde’s hills. There are solutions to stop encroachment but a compensation scheme is urgently needed to save Yaounde‘s green belt!

Important finding for #conservation planning and #protectedarea management
We showed how hunting patterns change dynamically with respect to human and landscape‐related features. We also demonstrated complex hunting patterns along the gradient of human influence, therefore questioning the use of proxies such as the distance to the village to account for hunting pressure.
