I am the 12%. 7:20 sunrises this week have been killing me. 4am sunrises in June would also be inconvenient.

I started reading The Story of Spanish by Nadeau and Barlow, but a chapter or two in, I am already spotting errors in the Latin, which makes me doubt the rest. Anybody read it or know of a better overview of the history of Spanish?

Apollo 13 captivated me more than any other movie when I was a kid. Watched it more times than I can count. Ad astra per aspera, Jim Lovell! 💫

New research from MIT found that those who used ChatGPT can’t remember any of the content of their essays.

Key takeaway: the product doesn’t suffer, but the process does. And when it comes to essays, the process *is* how they learn.

It’s summer!!! Some ‘24-‘25 school year highlights:
• My current students recruited 80% of rising freshmen to take Latin
• All juniors who stayed at our school continued to Latin III
• Lecture from local artist birdcap about myth & art
• Pompeii exhibition field trip
• 7 NLE golds, >60% won awards

The Latin movie projects are so good this year! One group recreated an animated short I used for a movie talk and genuinely I have not laughed that hard in at least a month.

Original Sin is such an overblown title for a book about a one-term presidency. Can we save that term for American narratives about, like, slavery and wiping out Native populations?

Pretty sure it was Pliny the Younger and not Pl-eye-ny the Elder who wrote about them, but I did enjoy a Roman sacred geese shoutout in this @npr.org story about porch geese.

Wrote a parva fabula about a senior feeling overwhelmed and classmates cheering her up for some more repetitions of vocab from Aeneid I.494-504, where Dido enters Juno’s temple looking like Diana. DM me your email if you want me to send you the Google doc.

Almost 4,000 years ago during an era we call the Old Babylonian period, a student formed a round tablet out of clay and drew a circle on it for a math assignment.

The area of the circle (45) was then calculated using an approximation of pi (≈ 3). #HappyPiDay

8:00am and the sun’s not even fully up. For what?
The time change comes too soon. Right now we are at 6:20 sunrise, 6:00 sunset. As God intended. But with DST, for two weeks we’ll have to suffer sunrises after 7:00, waking up in the dark for no good reason. You permanent DST people are unhinged!
