Took a field trip to Pompeii: The Exhibition at Graceland today. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Students couldn’t believe these things were really from the 1st century.

Looking forward to reading what the students come up with for this on Monday, as we read “Cloelia: Puella Romana” and make meaningful connections to history.
Cloelia: Choose Your Ancestors Prompt Cloelia makes a speech to the other hostages to remind them of their Roman identity and the bravery of their ancestors/fellow citizens so that they can gather their courage to cross the river and escape captivity. Write yourself an encouraging letter/speech like Cloelia’s speech, to be saved for a rainy day when you need some empowerment, where you remind yourself of people in history who have shown you what it looks like to be brave and lead the way to freedom for themselves and others. Choose your people. Who do you identify with? Who shows you the way? Assignment Timeline Prep work for Wednesday: Choose your historical figures (3-5) who you will pump yourself up with. In a Google doc, write a few sentences about each. (1) What did they do, and (2) what does that remind you to do/be? Use ProQuest for research. The “ProQuest Guided Research: Research Topics” results are especially helpful. In class Wednesday: Teacher checks for completion/thoughtfulness, students talk through their choices with classmates. Classwork Monday: Write the speech/letter. Share a few with the class. Suggested inspirational figures (feel free to choose people not on this list)
