at columbia it’s so hard to engage in my core seminars bc every third student is an econ major who doesn’t do the reading😭
It is genuinely terrifying and also insanely sad to think of how many brilliant, weird people whose talents we may be losing out on with the loss of the weird schools that catered to them - and the loss of support for a truly humanistic education among the non-ultra-rich

going from public high school classes to a seminar where three of my classmates casually have $10k cartier bracelets was really jarring

this reminds me of those 12 people who were responsible for thousands of book ban requests and it's a good reminder there aren't actually that many malicious actors in the world, just lots of systems unprepared for exploitation

people who use goodreads: jeff bezos owns goodreads and if you want a better alternative there is a black woman owned company called storygraph that you can use to replace it. you can transfer all of your data from goodreads to storygraph and have your mind be free of trumpie jeff bezos! win win. 💙

Library stacks at the University of Michigan.

These places are enchanted spaces and I love them. It's here that you'll find the old, forbidden, forgotten, dusty books of trouble, rebellion, resistance, and knowledge. This place doesn't care about bestsellers, face-out displays, etc.
