"On aboutit à cette situation renversée que nous vivons tous les jours, où ceux qui veulent détruire la démocratie paraissent lutter pour des revendications légitimes tandis que ceux qui veulent la défendre sont présentés comme les artisans d’une répression réactionnaire"JF Revel
It is PRECISELY when anyone is accused of violating the law that due process is most needed to establish guilt or innocence.
Think of the horror lived by any innocent sent to El Salvador without ANY CHANCE AT ALL to prove his innocence.
Republican Congresswoman Victoria Spartz: “You violated the law; you are not entitled to due process.”

This is a blatantly unconstitutional statement—every person is guaranteed due process under the Constitution.

Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century."

Is playing by the rules in a world where powerful ennemies do not -& in a stunning reversal, accuse defenders of democracy of censorship- a winning strategy? Or does it doom us to succomb to the ennemies within?

I wonder when Keir Starmer will realise that his "bridge strategy" is untenable. The consequences of a reversal of what has been the 🇬🇧 unquestioned acquiescence to 🇺🇸 needs & priorities would be seismic but what would be the consequences of continuing on the same course?

Everything you need to know about Pierre Polievre's MAGA MAPLE.
They have no policies just smears.
I have known Poilievre for 21 years.
He is unfit for public office.

Good summary.
I’m in Munich and people keep asking me to decode Vance’s speech. OK: In Vance English “free speech” means “Let Musk run your elections” and “democracy” means “let Russia run your elections.” Now move on. 2025 is about what Europeans do, not what Americans say.

If there is a war, it will not be just professional soldiers who will have to fight. Will cosseted Europeans subjected to decades of rampant disinformation, attached to their largely comfortable life, have the courage & resilience of the Ukrainians? 1/2

🇺🇸 journalists should stop reacting to Trump's statements & ignore the noise. They should instead focus RELENTLESSLY on what his administration is ACTUALLY DOING & the dire consequences for millions of Americans & for the US economy. 1/
Hearing that the DOGE chaos hurricane is hitting HUD soon, and the plan is to devastate federal housing funding. Let's be clear: this would cause a cascade of catastrophic impacts nationwide, shutting down housing and dumping families into the street.
