'The Last Valley', set during the 30-Year's War - a horribly brutal period. Written and directed by James Clavell (of Shogun fame). This early scene grabbed me:
Soldier: "You philosophers are such hypocrites. I only do what’s necessary, no more. If to kill is necessary I do it without conscience."

A quick illustration - more practice having a go at stylised cartoons. not as loose as I wanted but it'll do (can't get precious about it - move on!) Something that's helped me a lot is using reference from stage actors, the exaggerated mannerisms, body language. Ref: The Kansas City Actors Theatre.
