🗳️ Vote for Bold Leadership on August 1st.

"island of strangers" and "squalid chapter". The more Labour say, the more relieved I am that I don't have their vote on my conscience.

When do I get to stop seeing the transphobic Observer on a Sunday, now they've separated from the Guardian?

I spotted this on Rightmove and flagged it to my local estate agent who don't seem particularly bothered... Am I overreacting or is this someone's racism on full display?

"Economic growth is more important to the UK government than net zero, Rachel Reeves has said"

Not surprised but shocked she's said it out loud. The logic that growth from a 3rd runway would raise money for net zero is nonsense. When would we even see ££ from Heathrow?! Far too late for the climate
New analysis: If four UK airport expansions including Heathrow are allowed to go ahead, they will cancel out the carbon savings of this government’s clean power plan IN JUST FIVE YEARS. This government must cancel these planned expansions.

tldr: financial markets caused temporary turmoil for the government this month, in a move that has likely now triggered public spending cuts, just to make "a quick buck"

How deregulation may have worsened Rachel Reeves’ bond market headache
If Labour wants to win the next election, they may have to depart from the failed orthodoxy that favours free-reigning financial markets coupled with cuts

Of course. who could have predicted this
Labour councillors backed this cash-for-zero-affordable housing scam. Green councillors voted against.

We can't allow developers to buy their way out of providing what #Exeter desperately needs.

Affordable housing scrapped from Exeter city centre development
The developer will now pay Exeter City Council at least £2m instead of providing affordable housing.

Why are govts constantly beholden to markets for every move they make? As much as Liz Truss made crap decisions, I felt Corbyn would have had the same problem if he'd tried to implement opposite policies. We're at the mercy of rich individuals playing around with other people's money

My amazing sister has done absolutely fantastic work in the last few years to bring women's homelessness into public attention. How women experience homelessness is so different to the 'norm' and very varied - the Solace census has really brought this to light

Hidden homeless crisis as hundreds more women sleep rough than official stats
A week-long charity census by the Single Homeless Project and Solace Women's Aid discovered more than 1,000 females had been on the streets – far higher than the government’s own count

Excuse my indecorous language. I’m just so tired of this from Labour. It’s been decades now of choosing to ignore all of the available evidence on climate impacts. The kicker is aviation growth isn’t even good for an economy like the UK’s and hasn’t been for a long time
I don’t want to be harsh, but to say the things the aviation minister has said here you would have to know absolutely fuck all about it, or be comfortable with barefaced lying. Those are the only options travelweekly.co.uk/news/air/avi...

My sister in law and her son will be massively affected by this. They've used the centres for over a decade and the impact of a change at this point will be life changing for her son. It just feels like people's lives are forgotten in the desperate attempts to save money (it's the same in Devon)

God, imagine a world where disabled people didn't have to spend all our (often limited) energy fighting for treatment, for care, for access, for our lives.

The fight goes on.

I do think assisted dying should be a thing in this country at some point, but I'm not sure we're ready for it as a society yet. We need functioning health, social and (state-funded!) palliative care services and we need to radically change our attitudes towards disabled people.

This is one the reasons I still think Twitter has value - showing the side of stories the media won't publish. Hoping more of this will come to Bluesky. Please sign below if you thought the coverage of Amsterdam violence was misleading and one-sided
🚨TOMORROW we hand in our complaint to Ofcom demanding they investigate Sky News’ coverage of Maccabi fans’ violence in Amsterdam

Today is the last chance to join the over 32k people who have added their name to support it.

Big day for reasoned debate on farms/inheritance today - a debate undermined by @BBCNews repeatedly and wrongly reporting as fact that “farms worth more than £1m would have to pay inheritance tax”. This is just flatly wrong in vast vast majority of cases
