One time Bob Ueker waved at me from the back of a golf cart and that's as close to cool as I'll ever be

For those who wail "this just isn't who we are as a nation," I present as contrary evidence this racist newspaper clipping from the 1990s, in which Ms Sandy Gajewski of Marathon, Wisconsin, lamented the existence of Hmong refugees in Wausau.

Penultimate paragraph even mentions pet-eating.

The Republic is collapsing but I'm out on a warm-but-breezy day, swinging in a hammock chair, reading a book and listening to the hum of lawn mowers, traffic, and kids playing.

Which is to say, not EVERYTHING is garbage. Lots of things are, but we've still got *gestures vaguely* this.

The number of summer hours I spent as a kid passively overhearing Bob Uecker's voice on the radio is MANY. I still hear ball/strike counts in his voice in my head.

He once waved to me from the back of a golf cart at a spring training game. Even as a grown-ass adult, I was excited.

RIP to a great.

This is why the Internet makes me a slow reader. I read a description of the 22nd United States Colored Troops' battle colors, and I just haaaaaad to put the book down and find an image of it. Sic semper tyrannis, indeed. 📚💙

I've read it two times THAT I TOLD YOU ABOUT, @thestorygraph.com. the actual number of times I've read it is... unknown, even to me.

I've purchased it twice (ADHD tax at least going to @emilymandel.bsky.social via my local bookstore) and checked it out from the library at least once.

Sure, yeah, I'll become mythical this year. Preferably a whispered rumor of a witch who supposedly lives in the deepest, darkest wood, putting hexes on bad people.
