It sounds like they may have been targeted over a traffic accident in which an ICE vehicle stopped abruptly in front of them. They filed a police report earlier in the week and made an insurance claim. This sounds like retribution.

So true. Before long, the madness will get local. I'm waiting for a visit from the Republican Stasi wanting to discuss my voting history and commitment to the balding madman. Until then, I'm reading up on Eastern Europe under the Soviets. Many of those societies survived so perhaps we will.
