Eichler was familiar with housing discrimination; there were developers of suburban communities who refused to sell homes to the Jewish middle class, among would-be buyers from other minority groups.

Trump insists he “won’t touch” Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security

He recently compared it to George HW Bush’s “read my lips: no new taxes” promise

… but Bush broke his promise and raised taxes

And a backlash is already emerging as GOP targets Medicaid, and Musk loudly talks about entitlements
As GOP eyes Medicaid cuts, Trump tries to avoid the political third rails
The president has said his administration “won’t touch” entitlement programs. Past efforts to do so have backfired on Trump and other politicians.

It’s not a direct comparison—it’s about a fledgling democracy tumbling backwards—but the book I keep thinking about right now is Masha Gessen’s “The Future is History”, which is very good about how short-term upheaval can have very long-term blowback.

Polls this far out from the election are inevitably wrong and therefore useless. So why does the media commission and publish them? Because they benefit from generalized anxiety about the election. They want us to fear, obsess, and wring our hands. Let’s not give them that satisfaction.

Demolishing a Palestinian school is not Zionism.

Violence against Palestinians is not Zionism.

Oppression of Palestinians is not Zionism.

Zionism is believing in the right of the Jewish people to live in our indigenous homeland…doesn’t everyone deserve at least that much?
